Cannot insert/edit gaps in sequence when set as reference

      Description

      If SHIFT-drag is used to insert gaps in an alignment sequence that is marked as a reference, exceptions are raised and edits cannot be performed:

      Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-2" java.lang.NullPointerException
      at jalview.gui.SeqPanel.editSequence(SeqPanel.java:1087)
      at jalview.gui.SeqPanel.mouseDragged(SeqPanel.java:1000)
