System freeze when opening file using gui (not `Ctrl+O`) while a dialog is open

See title; to reproduce:
Start with a sequence file in jalview; highlight a section to edit (Selection > Edit > Edit Sequence). When the editing dialog is still open, try to open another file from the main menubar (File -> Input Alignment > From File), and the X-system freezes (only by dropping out of X and after `kill <pid jalview>` one can continue).

All goes as expected (no freeze, one can continue the editing) when doing thie above but import the second file by key combination `Ctrl+O` (bypassing the gui),
