Shade gaps differently to residues in the alignment view

Gaps are only distinguished from residues and the alignment figure background by the presence of a gap character at gapped positions in an alignment view. When 'Show Text' is disabled it would be useful to shade gaps differently to highlight their position.

Ideally, one could also specify the gap colour, or reuse the gap colour already available for the overview window (JAL-2588).
