Safari to Version 3.1.1 (5525.18)+recent java update

Just for your information I have my website behind basic authentication. When I changed to jalview 2.4 I updated Safari to Version 3.1.1 (5525.18). Seems like there was also a java update, but I can't remember. After the applet asks for the user name and password I get the spinning beach ball of death. This does not happen on Firefox so it is something about Safari. I have sent several crash reports to Apple. I thought I would pass this along in case someone writes complaining about it.
