show feature shading state, number of groups and range of shading currently applied

Users often get confused between alignment shading schemes and feature shading - particularly when first learning to use Jalview.

If the UI clearly shows the state of the feature display and the current range of alignment shading it might help alleviate confusion. These might also provide access to the existing menu item controls to modify feature and alignment shading for the current view.
