Cannot close news reader when JABAWS server is also inaccessible

      Description

      The Jalview RSS News reader, which automatically opens when new news is available, competes for input focus with other modal dialogs, resulting in the user being locked out of both dialog boxes if the news reader and another dialog are shown at the same time.

      The situation is actually more general - the user will be locked out if a non gui thread opens a modal dialog when one is already shown.
