      Description

      The jalview desktop RSS reader is hardwired to open when new items are available on the Desktop/RSS feed. This feature is designed to inform desktop users of high-priority news (new releases, service outages, and other extra-ordinary news items like job vacancies).

      When new content is available from other feeds at www.jalview.org (e.g. www.jalview.org/feeds/all-news/rss), a discrete 'new items available' flag should be shown which when clicked, either takes the user to the site or opens the feed in the news reader.
